How to Impress External Examiners? Engineering Practical & Viva Hacks (Dec 2025)

Engineering Student in Viva Exam

It’s December. The "Submission Season" is officially ON. Your hands hurt from writing practical files, and the fear of the "External Examiner" is kicking in.

Engineering practicals (starting late Dec) are tricky. You might know the theory, but if you freeze in front of the external, your marks go down. But don't worry.

At YuvaSync, we have cracked the code. Here is how to handle the External Examiner and score 20/25 easily, even if your concepts aren't perfect.

1. The "I Don't Know" Strategy 🧠

The External Examiner knows you don't know everything. The worst thing you can do is stay silent or give a wrong answer confidently.

The Hack: If you don't know an answer, use this line:

"Sir, I am a bit confused about this topic right now, but I have prepared [Topic Name] very thoroughly. Can you ask me from that?"

90% of examiners will appreciate your honesty and ask from your strong topic. Make sure you actually know that topic well!

2. Master the "Units & Definitions" 📏

You can forget the derivation, but you cannot forget the SI Units. It’s a sin in engineering.

  • Physics/Mech: Know the units of Force, Stress, Viscosity, etc.
  • Electrical: Know Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Law definitions.
  • Basic Question: "Tell me the principle of this experiment." (Ratta maar lo!).

3. Your Practical File is Your Ticket 📂

Examiners often flip through your file while asking questions. If your index is incomplete or graphs are missing, they get annoyed.

  • Hack: Ensure the Index Page and Certificate are fully signed.
  • Hack: Draw diagrams clearly. A neat file creates a "Good Student" psychological bias.

4. Dress Code & Attitude Matters 👔

It sounds cliché, but it’s true. Tuck in your shirt, wear your ID card, and wish the examiner "Good Morning" with a smile.

Pro Tip: Don't argue. Even if the examiner is wrong, just nod and say, "Okay Sir, I will check that." Your ego won't get you marks; your politeness will.

5. Help Your Friends (Smartly) 🤝

Usually, students go in groups of 4-5. Decide beforehand:

"If he asks about Engines, Rahul will answer. If he asks about Coding, Priya will answer."

Support each other, but don't whisper answers loudly!

Final Words

Practical exams are less about knowledge and more about confidence. Take a deep breath, be polite, and you will sail through.
